The cosmos and beyond
Love, impact and understanding are the three concepts that capture my pursuit for a meaningful life.
I had a thought provoking discussion yesterday with a friend from Albania.
Arsi asked me questions that I regularly ask myself, but have never been asked by another person. She inquired about my plans for 2023 and if I would be willing to change my routines given the chance. These questions are very similar to my regular brain conversations; however, being pointed out by another person made me realize how another's view on my ideas can make me think more about what I normally say to myself. This made me question whether or not I really understand my ideas. Arsi's questions allowed me to reflect on myself in a new light and helped me to better understand my own thoughts and methods. Overall, her inquisitive nature was both insightful and helpful. Thank you, Arsi! (I know you will read this!)
Even though I have explained the value of stories many times, I have never gone into detail about the types of stories I am chasing.
For the next 50 years, I am willing to chase stories that are both heartwarming and heartbreaking, ones that make me laugh and cry, and ones that teach me something new. I want to chase stories that take me on an adventure, both physically and emotionally. I also want to chase stories that help me understand the world and the people in it better. In short, I want to chase stories that enrich my life in some way. Whether they do so by entertaining me, educating me, or simply making me feel more connected to the world around me, these are the types of stories I am chasing for the next 50 years.
Why 50 years? Why think so far ahead?
Simplicity. There's a lot to be said for simplicity. In a world that is constantly changing and evolving, it can be refreshing to find something that is steadfast and unchanging. That's not to say that change is always bad, but sometimes it can be overwhelming. When we are Simplicity-minded, we can approach change with a sense of calm and detachment, knowing that the things that truly matter will remain constant. And, of course, there is a certain beauty in simplicity itself. We can appreciate the elegance of a well-designed object or the purity of a mathematical proof. So, next time you're feeling overwhelmed by the complexities of life, take a step back and remember the value of simplicity. It just might help you simplify your own life as well.
It aligns my "pursuit of knowledge habit". To have a love for knowledge is a strong virtue to uphold. To be able to see the value in learning and exploring new things sets one up for success not just in their own life, but also for future generations. When thinking about what to pursue, it is always important to think 50 years ahead. What will still be relevant? What will be outdated? What do I want to be known for? Thinking about these things now can help set you on the right path and ensure that you are making choices that will stand the test of time. It can be easy to get caught up in the here and now, but if you take the time to think about the long term, it can pay off in a big way. So, next time you are stuck trying to decide what to do next, take a step back and think about what will matter most 50 years from now. You may be surprised at how much your perspective changes.
Taking Decisions Becomes Easier. It's easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day and lose sight of the bigger picture. But if we take a step back and think about our lives 50 years from now, it becomes much easier to identify what's important and make decisions accordingly. For example, we may realize that we don't want to waste our time with negative people who bring us down, or that we need to start exercising regularly now if we want to be healthy in our later years. Thinking ahead can also help us stay on track when faced with temptations or difficult situations. If we can remind ourselves of our long-term goals, we're more likely to make choices that will help us achieve them. So next time you're feeling stuck, try thinking 50 years into the future - it just might help you get unstuck.
What are these Stories That Are Worth Pursuing?
Love. The force behind love is what makes life on Earth so magnificent. The dance that started 3.5 billion years ago has led to some of the most amazing human experiences that we share today. I am aligning my decisions in life in pursuit of the highest form of human experience. Our responsibility to live and share our lives is predicated on our capacity to have feelings. We understand life because of our emotions. The stories I'm pursuing are ones that will touch people's hearts and minds, and change the way they see the world. I want to write stories that inspire people to be the best versions of themselves, and to pursue their own happiness. Love is what makes all of this possible, and I am grateful for its power in my life.
Understanding The Cosmos. The Cosmos is an interesting thing. The more I understand about The Universe and God, the more I realize how little I actually know. It's both frustrating and humbling. I feel like a child asking questions that can never be fully answered. But I suppose that's part of the human experience. We are always striving to understand The Cosmos, even though we may never truly comprehend it. The stories I'm pursuing help me to make sense of The Cosmos and my place in it. They give me a sense of wonder and hope. And they remind me that, even though The Universe is vast and mysterious, we are all connected.
Impact. The stories I'm pursuing define my impact. They are what will continue life on Earth and ensure that all knowledge worth retaining is passed on properly. In dedicating this lifetime to pursue parenting and effective altruism, I am taking my place in the universe and maximizing it. Love of life and others is best captured in our impact.
Love, impact and understanding are the three concepts that capture my pursuit for a meaningful life.
The stories I'm pursuing revolve around these topics because they challenge me spiritually, mentally and physically. Love forces me to be vulnerable and transparent with myself which is difficult, but ultimately rewarding. Impact reminds me that every decision I make has consequences and that some choices are more significant than others. Understanding allows me to see the world from different perspectives and to have compassion for people who may not think or believe the same things as I do. These concepts challenge me to grow in all areas of my life, and for that reason, I am constantly pursuing them.
